What? Ford just revealed a new vehicle on Facebook? When?

Ford recreates a "real" wilderness in the middle of Manhattan, has built all this hype over revealing the new Ford Explorer on Facebook, Mike Rowe is there, the CEO Alan Mulally is there and what do they reveal?... Just a regular old SUV. How sad. But I'm not here to talk smack about the vehicle. I want to talk about the reveal efforts Ford went through just to announce what is really a pretty basic looking and functioning SUV; a Ford no less.

My Rating In all honesty, I give the innovation and launch idea a good 4 out of 5. Not many companies that size have launched a new product on a social media channel before. New vehicles are typically revealed at big car shows and the like. So props for that maneuver. Execution was pretty good. Maybe a 3 out of 5. The videos on their Facebook page were cool. But there was just too much talk from employees and CEO's about how excited they were about the vehicle. It got tired quickly. And when the vehicle was eventually released, it got all of 30 sec of face time. What gives? They didn't even show the interior! They received SOME coverage of the event... from the usual know-it-all's like Mashable and New York Times. Nothing earth shattering. Here's the more pressing question... did any of you even know Ford was revealing the new Explorer on Facebook the other day? Oh and fyi... Old Spice just announced they've double sales since the Old Spice You Tube event.
